Icons & buttons
Security mode

A padlock symbol shows if Opera is currently using SSL2, SSL3 or TLS1 encryption protocols. Clicking on this icon will have no effect since it is up to the server to decide whether a secure connection will be used:

Open padlock symbolNormal HTTP connecton (No SSL/TLS security)
Locked padlock with 1/3 full bar32 - 64 bit encryption (SSL v2 connection)
Locked padlock with 2/3 full bar64 - 96 bit encryption (SSL v3 connection)
Locked padlock with 3/3 full bar96 - 128 bit encryption (TSL v1 for maximum security)
Image mode

A picture-frame symbol indicates whether Opera is set to download and display all new images (including backgrounds), only display images that have been previously downloaded and are still held in the cache, or display no images at all. Click on this icon to cycle through image modes:

Empty picture frameDownload and display all images automatically.
Picture frame with down arrowDisplay cached images only, but preserve layout.
Picture frame with crossIgnore all images, and re-flow text to collapse images to display Alt text in full.
CSS mode

A document symbol is displayed when Opera is currently using the document's own CSS. When you apply your own stylesheet or filter the author's CSS by entering User CSS mode, the icon will change to show a figurine. Click on this icon to cycle through CSS modes:

Printed document with folded cornerDocument CSS mode.
Small personUser CSS mode.
Stop

The Stop symbol is only displayed in the Progress bar whilst data is being received, and is clicked on to stop the current page/file downloading immediately. Opera will render as much of the page as has been received (including images and other objects), and will place a Transmission stopped message at the point the download was aborted. Once you have stopped loading, or the download is complete, this icon will disappear and be replaced by the Address bar:

Small disc with crossStop all loading immediately.
Display information

Normally, the Progress bar will include the Address bar and quick-zoom controls to the right of the CSS and Image mode icons:

Current URL
Full URL or file path

After the page has finished loading, all status information will be replaced with a drop down history list showing the URL of the current document or file. Focusing on the field will allow you to enter another URL or bookmark nickname (Nicknames only work in the Address bar), and clicking on the list button to the right will bring up the Recent history list. Once you have focused on the field you can use Delete from the Edit menu to clear it. To highlight the entire field automatically, for easier copying/deleting, focus on it using Ctrl+click instead.

Zoom level
Zoom level in percentage

When the current document or file has loaded, another drop down list will appear at the end of the Progress bar, providing ready access to several zoom levels. In addition to these six preset levels, you may also enter any zoom level between 10–1000%, in 10% increments, directly into the field. The % symbol is not required for the values you enter.

Status information

These sections will appear in the Progress Bar only whilst Opera is downloading data, and will replace the Address bar and quick-zoom sections. Once the download is complete, those sections will appear again and the full URL of the current document will be displayed:

Percentage of document retrieved
Document symbol with percent-sign next to bar showing the value

While a page is still loading, this section will show a live figure indicating how much of the document has been downloaded so far. If the server includes the document's file size in the HTTP header then Opera will display this figure as a percentage, otherwise the data will be counted in KB as it loads.

Number of images loaded
Picture frame with hash symbol next to the image ratio (loaded:total)

Whilst the current page is loading, this section will show the ratio of images downloaded so far, to the total number of images contained within the document.

Raw data received
A scrolling bar with a value on top

This live figure is displayed while a document is still being downloaded, and indicates the total amount of data downloaded by Opera. This combined measurement includes the HTML, images, Javascripts, Stylesheets, Java applets and any other embedded files downloaded as part of the document in the current window.

Connection speed
Fluctuating figure in KB/s or b/s

This part of the Progress bar will display the live transfer rate between you and the remote server for as long as data is being received. Normaly this figure will be in KB, however if the connection becomes very slow and drops to below 1KB, the value will instead be shown in B/s.

Download timer
Value in min:sec

This section displays a simple timer showing you how long Opera has been downloading/rendering the current page in minutes and seconds. The clock will keep counting until the page is fully loaded, even if Opera pauses the transfer whilst rendering complicated parts of the received markup. Once the download is complete (or you manually Stop it) the timer will disappear, so you will be unable to check how long it took.

Connection Status
Text box showing server and status messages

This section of the Progress bar displays live server information such as whether Opera is resolving a domain, has located and connected the remote server, whether it's requesting another file, or is downloading, etc.
